project studies

further studies were made on the project design, in order to clarify the circulation in the hotel.
The concept idea developed in the masterplan ( of the extruded cones punching horizontal planes)
has been tested in a model.

The circolation will be located in the center of the plan in order to connect the different floors.
The building floors will have a void in the center of their plans in order to let the light pass through.

1st and 2nd floors

3rd and 4rth floors

the roof will work as a concrete frame (big pattern) which scale to smaller modules following spaces functions. For example the rooms will have a more small and dense pattern .
the pattern will be wide when in the building will be public activities and it will be small for the private ones.

project design VIVA presentation

the design is still working in progress further analysis will be done in order to simplify the ciculation of the building and clarify the building's main areas ( restaurant bar rooms spa etc)

hotel diagrams studies
spaces proportions :
Hotels can be of different dimensions, spaces can change from very small
to enormous. Common hotels are design with 95% rooms areas. In hotels
where the public spaces are bigger the percentage of rooms change to 65%.
Hotel areas are proportioned to the rooms mq .

hall/ entrance, 1,2 mq for room;
main office, 0,5 mq per camera;
restauration, 2,5 mq per camera;
public areas, 3 mq per camera;
staff areas, 1 mq per camera;
service areas, 2 mq per camera

project design

The project design waNte to translate the mosaic language of istanbul city in the building design.
inspiration from packed paving of istanbul.

Abstraction and superposition of the pattern

concept design packed and punched

does exhist in nature a packed and punched structure ?
beehive structure

were generated various studies in order to translate the esagonal beehive pattern structure in a building design.

superposition of the pattern for section design

the pattern was used on section and elevation, but it has generate too complex design.

further analysis studied the pattern applied on the plans design of the building in order to define the building circolation and areas.

an esagonal 6 mtr grid was used to generate the pattern

building areas / public big spaces and small private ones (rooms and secondary program areas )

building circulation : the circolation moves as a network between the bloks extrusions

circolation network

final design

room and public space
each floor ha 27 rooms with additional 9 spa rooms for each hotel floor .

the circulation go through the vertical cores

masterplan studies

first test for the masterplan

further studies new masterplan.
personal considerations : In the previous masterplan the circolation wasn't clear and the graphic language was too messy: the use of pattern for the ground was distracting and not helping the design studies.
the topography needed to be represented in the drawing.

concept?

"There is no architecture without a concept - an overarching idea, diagram, or parti that gives coherence and identity to a building. Concept not form is what distinguishes architecture from mere building. However there is no architecture without a context (except in utopia). A work of architecture is always in situ, located on a site. The context may be historical, geographical, cultural, political or economic. It is never solely a matter of its visual dimention, or what in the 1980s and 1990s was termed "contextualism", with an implied aesthetic conservatism." (B.Tschumi "Event Cities 3" 2005)
