OMA’s termite mound inspired Television Cultural Centre (TVCC) consists of skin wrapped around an apparent
random loose assembly of stacked, joined and piled public programs. This arrangement provides a more informal quality compared to the rigid structure of the adjacent CCTV.
Despite its unusual form, the basic design principal is a common one; a plinth of public programs at ground level with a tower of private hotel rooms on top. Located in the heart of Beijing’s Central Business District, the £110m TVCC is part of the mammoth China Central Television development and will open as a 5 star Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
