After return back to London from Istanbul, we had a meeting with visitor lecturer Rodorigo Perez de Arce.
In construction workshop week, tensile group's aim was to provide an external shelter in a suitable location to enhance the recreational facilities within the nursery of UEL Dockland Campus.
Finally, all groups completed the first phase of the 5in1 workshop and presented the lobby models on 27.11.2008. First critiques were not gladsome, however we have practiced about the usage of a hotel lobby, importance of the structure in design process and the relationship between functions and shapes of volumes.
A presentation about Peter Zumthor’s architecture had been presented in Material Matters lesson on 26.11.2008. Our group presented the main issues by dividing them in to five:
1. Publishing Zumthor's making architecture
2. Relationship with clients / money matter
3. Critical appreciation of Zumthor’s way of designing
4. Materials use and construction making
5. Effect of phenomenology.
The presenters are Omer Aksoyak, Lin Cheung, Patrick Chiu, Karl Enright, Siddhesh Gaikwad, Elisa Recchia, Tomoaki Todome , Mie Ueda and Chisato Yasuzawa

The unit is to design a hotel stack on a site in Canary Wharf as a formal exploration exercise to challenge the typology of the hotel.
