Introduction
The construction workshops at UEL are carried out in the 4th year of our curriculum & are an excellent tool to get students acquainted with the actual construction process of a structure. These workshops help provide an opportunity to evolve techniques which are not only innovative in their essence, but also provide practical answers to various challenges in the field of construction.
The construction workshops aim at infusing practical knowledge & experience into theory to help students understand the nuances of construction more closely. Getting involved in an actual construction activity also means developing workable details to build a structure. The workshops involve group work, which strengthens a student’s ability to accept new ideas & to nurture a broad perspective while retaining one’s individuality. At the end of the program, a student’s thought process is translated into an actual structure, which, if given proper thought throughout the program, has great potential to become a precedent in the field.

Introduction
The unit is to design a hotel stack on a site in canary Wharf as a formal exploration exercise to challenge the typology of the hotel. We worked in 5 teams, each team was responsible for designing two floors (4.5m high) of the hotel. Team must consider their floors in terms of public circulation/ public program and room configurations. The programmatic relationships are for the student to determine.
Hang Hotel - The very early sketches were of a structure that is "HUNG" from the ceiling. This is our idea. This has given us the opportunity to provide for a public area at ground level and HANG the hotel functions from above, allowing us to free the plan and offer an accessible area underneath the building.
