NEKTON's project for Vatnsmyri, Reykjavik, Iceland. ' Turf City ' is a
2nd place group prize winning finalist out of 136 entries.
Our vision for Vatnsmyri sets out to develop a clear local/global
identity for a site that stands in strong relation with the existing
region and future city of
Reykjavik. We call this new urban region Turf City.
Turf City has been conceived from the traditional Icelandic turf houses
and the relationship with the landscape/ground, the space it produces
and how
these instances blur between each other. Our aim is to use these
conditions as an architectural rule for generating a new urban condition
that offers the
desired spatiality of evolved European cities and the functionality of
designed cities of the 20th century, with a strong spatial and formal
ambiance we see as Icelandic.

I was invited to a jury with Diploma Unit 9 at London Met Saturday, some very good work being produced up there. Take a look at some of the pics below. Maybe we will have a joint LMU vs UEL Unit 9fest in the near future.

No I'm not going to bore you with my thesis again. This is quite literal. The real first.
MS Deutschland of Peter Deilmann Ocean Cruises is visiting London on Sunday 28 May. During its stay they are conducting tours aboard the ship, followed by champagne receptions! Marketing it as a 5 star luxury grand hotel on voyage, this is no Pride of Bilbao with Embassy puffing arthritic pensioners. MS Deutschland is a regular visitor to London, and is typical of the types of cruise ships that calls at London, both in terms of lifestyle onboard and ship tonnage. Perhaps it'll give all of us a, albeit much belated, reality check of what our designs are engaging with.

And on a lighter note, the hyperreal - CGed cruise ship. I stumbled across this movie, Poseidon. From the trailer it looks like a bad cheesy Irwin Allen's The Poseidon Adventure remake meets Titanic meets tsunami. A perfect brainless exercise after our final hand-ins.
Anyway good luck with your work everyone.

I found this while doing some research for my porf studies, don't ask what I was searching for I promise you it was legitimate.
Here is a link to the work of Joseph Lee. He received Distinction in his final year with us and this is the selection of work that he put together for the RIBA silver medal in 2003. He received a mention from the judging panel.
Tutorial on cheap (well, free - its Photoshop) way to make your pics look like a tidy scale models like Olivo Barbieri's work which was shown at the Universal experience exhibition at the hayward, mines the one on the left...enjoy
