Royal Caribbean's Freedom of the Seas had visited Southampton last Saturday, in preparation for its first passenger cruise across the Atlantic which left yesterday. At 339 metres (1,112 ft) long it had problems manoeuvring the Hamburg harbour prior to the UK visit. It boasts an outdoor rock climbing wall, a surfing pool with machine-produced waves, and presidential suites probably the size of our architecture building! http://www.freedomoftheseas.com

On a more imaginable scale, Hapag Lloyd's c. Columbus (only 142m / 468ft!) is visiting the Big Smoke tomorrow (5 May), mooring at Tower Bridge Lower. (Incidentally Hapad Lloyd also owns the ms Europa, which is the world's best cruise ship according to Berlitz Ocean Cruising and Cruise Ships.) For those who missed ms Midnatsol's visit earlier I recommend paying a visit tomorrow. It's fun seeing the glowing faces of the passengers who have been so "pampered" and have "got away from it all". If for nothing else the sun's shining and there are loads of good pubs around London Bridge. See you tomorrow!

Dear Students
On Thursday 12th and Friday 13th there will be a workshop given on Computer Aided Manufacturing techniques.
This work shop will be for Diploma Unit 9 and Degree Unit D.
In this workshop we will give a brief introduction on these techniques and you will be shown how to prepare digital files for these outputs.
This workshop will be a repeat of what Andrew, Sibyl, and Taesik took part in at the AA in November.
This workshop is mandatory for all.
We will start at 10:30
In order to take part you need to bring:
1. an extension lead. You will need to plug in to something!!! These are very important!!!!!!!!!
2. your lap-top with rhino 3d installed. If you do not have it installed there will be time to do this on the day. Unfortunately there is no Rhino for Mac's sorry!
3. bring a usb storage device to transfer files, and additional burnable cd's or dvd's. just in case!!!
4. bring a digital model of your project to work with. this is a good thing to have but not necessary to learn these techniques.
5. your brain!!!!
If you are running a Mac, you can try to get virtual PC put on your machine to run rhino, but there is no guarantee that it will run with out glitches.
Thought you have a few days to arrange a PC to use over those few days.
If you can not make it we need to know by Wednesday morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Architectural Association has posted it's lectures for the spring term on line. Some good ones are coming up! Check it out!
